About Us:
Our Shelter
The Ottawa Mission's emergency shelter provides a safe, clean place to sleep for homeless individuals in our community. In addition, we offer hot, nutritious meals each and every day of the year to our residents and others in need. Individuals and families also rely on The Ottawa Mission for good used clothing, shower facilities, toiletries, and a supplementary grocery program. Currently, The Ottawa Mission has 195 emergency hostel beds and 42 private rooms, most of which are filled each night.
Our Client Services Centre
Our Client Services Centre goes beyond temporary assistance, helping individuals get off the streets and regain a healthier lifestyle. Staff and volunteers in the Centre provide employment and training resources, help in finding permanent housing, and referrals to other community programs.
Our Training Programs
In addition to the retraining services offered in Client Services, our kitchen and housekeeping staff have created two important retraining opportunities inside The Ottawa Mission. Our kitchen training program has had three successful graduating classes, and in 2006 our housekeeping training program will begin providing individuals with the necessary skills and certifications to find work in commercial housekeeping facilities.
Our LifeSkills Program
The Ottawa Mission's LifeSkills program offers the opportunity to make a fresh start to those who wish to overcome addictions. LifeSkills supports individuals through a six-month residential program with counseling, group therapy and training in practical skills. LifeSkills provides ongoing support to individuals as they embark on their journey toward personal recovery, self-sufficiency and independent living.
Our Hospice
The Hospice serves members of the homeless community who are terminally ill. Individuals (both men and women) receive round the clock professional medical supervision, emotional support and personal attention in a peaceful, homelike environment.
Our Pastoral and Chaplaincy Services
Through our open-door counseling approach, Bible studies and regular Chapel services, The Ottawa Mission offers faith and hope for those wishing to build a wholesome life. Through our Church Outreach Program we share our stories and pray with congregations in our community, raising awareness about the important work of The Ottawa Mission and its life-changing impact on homeless people in our region.
Our Volunteer Services
Participating in every aspect of daily life at The Ottawa Mission, our volunteers donate their time to perform all kinds of tasks, working together to transform the lives of those who rely on The Ottawa Mission's services. Every day of the week, loyal and hard-working individuals, families and groups lend us and our clients a helping hand.
