The vision of HUG is to promote Peace through Education – a first step being to educate the children of the world about each other’s cultures and faiths – emphasizing the common threads that bind humanity – challenging prejudices and advancing the cause of peace and peaceful coexistence.

The time has never been better to develop, promote and make fully accessible such educational curricula and programs for all the children of the world. HUG will bring together committed educators and leaders to realize its vision.

HUG'S BACKGROUND
We live in a world permeated by prejudice and violence. Whether it be a minor, seemingly innocuous offence such as a verbal attack, or an unspeakable atrocity such as an act of terrorism, violence is firmly entrenched in our present lives. At HUG, we believe that prevention is better than cure. It is more effective to invest in preventing violence than in attempting to deal with the consequences.

We are not proposing a band-aid solution. We are proposing an attack on the root cause of prejudice and violence – ignorance – with the only real long-term answer: education. While it may be a long time before our approach gains universal acceptance as an effective deterrent to prejudice, strife and violence, every journey begins with a first step.

Violence is often fueled by a fear of the unknown or a hatred of differences. As extremist members of cultures and faiths align against one another, aggression escalates and conflict ensues. Therefore, educating the children of the world is an essential first step to fostering greater understanding and breaking the cycle of violence and hatred that is all too often being passed from generation to generation.
