Mission of the organization
The Caring and Sharing Exchange, home of the Christmas Exchange Program, has the mission to co-ordinate services for organizations such as social agencies, schools, health services and faith communities in the Greater Ottawa Area. Caring & Sharing also directly provides assistance to families and individuals in Ottawa who face economic hardship.
The Christmas Exchange Program provides either a food hamper or a redeemable gift- voucher to families and individuals who are verifiably in need and who would not otherwise receive seasonal assistance from any other community organization.
How do we know? The Coordination Service, which is virtually a centralized database, coordinates assistance provided by hundreds of agencies in Ottawa. We coordinate the referrals for toys for the Salvation Army Toy Centre at Christmas. The secure database collects the names of all the individuals and families referred through a network of over 300 community organizations! We then cross-reference the names of all clients to eliminate duplications and to ensure that all those in need receive the help they deserve. Caring and Sharing runs three programs: A Coordination Service; Sharing in Student Success*; and the Christmas Exchange Program. All programs are funded through donations and fundraising events.
* Sharing in Student Success can be found under the Poverty & Hunger and Children & Youth Sections.
